Governor Services
National research indicates that a school is unlikely to succeed without an effective governing board and school governors. Strong governance is essential to ensuring successful educational outcomes since school governors and trustees, although volunteers, play a vital strategic role in holding school leaders to account through support, challenge and driving school improvement. With an increasing national emphasis on skilled, knowledgeable school governors and trustees who contribute to the effective governance and success of the school, it has never been more important to keep up to date with the latest legislation, guidance and good practice.
Governor Services enjoys a high reputation for excellence in supporting school governors and school governing bodies both within Essex and nationally, including representation on national bodies such as NCOGS. We recognise that school governors’ responsibilities are wide-ranging, with boards facing new challenges on a regular basis, and can help with any aspect of governance from the ordinary to the extraordinary. Professional but approachable we are willing to listen, in confidence if necessary, to support you in carrying out your role effectively.
Our all-inclusive subscription package is designed to cover the full range of governance support. We offer advice and consultancy, a dedicated advice line, model policies and guidance and regular communications to keep you up to date with the latest legislation and good practice. Subscribers also have access to downloadable resources which include model templates, checklists, procedures and toolkits.
For an additional charge we can also offer a Review of Governance and bespoke support addressing specific issues for your school governing board.

Thank you for sending me the Chairs News because it is really useful. I am glad we have sorted out our subscription, I could not be without the service because you have helped me out so much!
Melissa Klein, chair of Governors, Alderton Junior School
Thank you very much for your time yesterday and the exceptionally prompt report! Everyone involved has said how useful and worthwhile the review of governance was and have already started thinking of ways in which we can all improve. The report is really useful and gives us some excellent feedback and ideas about how we can best develop. We will discuss these at the next meeting before deciding a way forward but I am sure that we will book the sessions and use the resources suggested to put these ideas into action.
Amanda Daines, Headteacher, The Tyrrells Primary School (an Outstanding academy)
On behalf of myself and my fellow governors, thank you for a most interesting and useful bespoke development session. We were all very surprised at the way you managed to elicit answers from us that were on topic and even relevant! It seems that we know more than we thought, but perhaps lack the confidence. For the first time we think as a group that we can survive Ofsted and that is certainly due to you instilling hope into us.
Jacqueline Stringer, Chair of Governors, Margaretting C of E Primary School

Review of Governance
Effective governance is pivotal to school improvement and the continued success of the school. Since April 2013 over 120 governing boards have
benefited from an EES for Schools Review of Governance (RoG). They have become an established tool to support proactive governing boards in
their self-evaluation and as a health check in preparation for inspection.
