Staffing Recruitment and Retention

Recruitment is my day–to-day job. I work with schools to help them recruit staff to their schools. One of the things that always strikes me is the peculiarity of the three resignation dates through the school year (for headteachers, by 31 January, 30 April, 30 September and for all other teaching posts, by 28 February, 31 May and 31 October) which, as we all know, leads to a peak of frantic activity to replace staff; this tends to be for teaching staff but also occurs when recruiting to the leadership team.
